While I liked the idea for this book, I didn't like the direction it took. In the middle section of the book, Picoult loses her characters voices and everyone sounds the same (perhaps so she can expound on the various themes presented and provide the data she got through what must have been extensive research). This entire section reads like an essay by Picoult and not a novel where information is revealed through the characters actions and reactions. I found the story to be very predictable with no surprises. I disliked the gratuitously added romance and thought Maggie was fine without it.
I'm giving it two stars because I like the storyline idea.
